Healthcare Financing

·           Healthcare financing in the United States is unique and extremely complex. It has evolved as part of a highly democratic and capitalist economy.

·           Healthcare in the United States is considerably different when compared to other countries. For example, in countries that constitute the European Union (EU), health insurance is mandatory. The state has to provide health insurance to all its citizens, whether they can pay for it or not.

·           In the United States, however, health insurance is not mandatory it is voluntary. This means that the government does not have to provide health insurance to all its citizens, individuals can choose whether they want to opt for health insurance or not.

·           There is a difference in the healthcare scenarios in India and the United States.

·           In the United States, a patient first takes an appointment, then meets the doctor, swipes the health insurance card, describes the symptoms of the ailment, gets the prescription or gets treated, and then walks off.

·           When it comes to payment, in India, the doctor gets the payment upfront. In the United States, however, it’s up to the doctor to follow up on the bill payment.
